Zbigniew Pietrzykowski The Maritime University of Szczecin

The assignment of the team from the nautical college (WSM) in Szczecin was the planning of a circumnavigation of the globe for an unmanned Trimaran under consideration of all nautical, hydro meteorological and restrictions of stability, as well as the analysis of the security of seafaring.
The conditions, the guidelines for the journey, offensive and defensive sailing tactics as well as the route-planning for all the stages of the journey has been gathered. With help of the general parameters of the Trimaran it has been tried to estimate the speed characteristics. The supposed polar characteristics of speed has been used to estimate the average speed of the Trimaran for each stages.

With help of statistical weather data and the nautical information concerning the analysed areas, including the used see routes, the route for the Trimaran had been determined. Geographical coordinates of the turning points and main course for each route of the whole trip were set. Each lane had been determined in which the Trimaran was allowed to travel. At the same time the security of sea traveling and hydrological meteorological conditions had been considered.

Under consideration of statistical weather data and the time to travel the average speed for each stage of the trip has been determined. The characteristics for each stage of the trip were specified.

A notice was given about the danger, which could occur during each stage of the trip. Statistical weather characteristics for all stages of the trip and a directory of nautical publications, which needed to be accessible during the planning and the realization of the project, had been gathered and summarized.
